October 24 – “Turn the Beach Pink” – In support of the “Real Men Wear Pink” fight against breast cancer our “Twin Beach Deputies” will be working throughout North and Chesapeake Beach during the month of October to collect donations. This is the first year that Calvert County has hosted a “Real Men Wear Pink” contest. Our Chesapeake Beach Restaurants (including Mamma Lucia’s, Rod ‘N’ Reel and Trader’s) will be hosting a special event between 4 pm and 8pm including food, drink specials, raffles, fun and a chance for you to do your part in the fight against this terrible disease. They will all be donating a percentage of their profits for this great cause. There will also be raffle tickets available through the American Cancer Society that we will have available for a 2018 Mercedes Benz 250 GLA SUV. The drawing will be in December, and the tickets sell for $10 each. Each $10 ticket sold can be credited to the Twin Beaches Deputies Real Men Wear Pink fundraising totals. Navy to Hold Public Meeting on Environmental Investigations, Private Drinking Water Sampling Results, Proposed Plan at NRL-CBD. The U.S. Navy is scheduled to hold a public meeting to discuss water sampling results, for wells near Naval Research Laboratory-Chesapeake Bay Detachment (NRL-CBD) in Chesapeake Beach, MD. The Navy sampled private drinking water wells near NRL-CBD for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances due to the testing of fire-fighting agents called aqueous film forming foam at the facility. The Navy has since reported the results to individual households. This meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to discuss their sampling results with the Navy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Maryland Department of the Environment officials. The meeting will also provide information on ongoing environmental investigations, a proposed plan for proposed plan for Munitions Response Site (MRS)-002, plans for a cleanup at MRS-003 and information for residents on establishing a Restoration Advisory Board.
