Planning & Zoning Position Available — The Planning & Zoning Commission is composed of seven volunteers whose job is to plan for the future of the Town and give the Mayor and Town Council their best advice about the physical development of the community. Planning Commission members play a unique and serious role in their communities, which is authorized under the Annotated Code of Maryland. Specifically, the Planning Commission:
1. Prepares and recommends a 20-year comprehensive plan for the development of the Town and updates that plan at least once every ten years;
2. Prepares and recommends amendments to the Zoning Ordinance;
3. Reviews the capital plans for facilities including parks, monuments, and roads for consistency with the Comprehensive Plan;
4. Reviews and approves private development site plans and land subdivisions upon finding them consistent with the comprehensive plan.
The Planning Commission meets in open session at the Town Hall on the evening of the second Wednesday of every month. Special meetings and work sessions may be called from time to time by the Chair. Regular attendance is very important to the work of the Planning Commission. The appointment is for a term of five years. Planning Commission members must abide by State and local laws and rules of procedures to ensure the integrity of the Commission’s important work. Members are required to be registered voters or property owners within the municipal limits of the Town of Chesapeake Beach. Candidates interested in joining the Commission should contact Mayor Patrick J. Mahoney by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone (410)257-2230).
